I am a part of an exciting project of bringing SUP fishing into New Zealand.
Just back from a “sup-sational” session of sight-fishing from the SUP on my home lake. Half a dozen trout, and a couple more lost due to operator’s errors, all coming up to big dries, then towing the sup around.
When it all lines up – weather, light and trout activity – it’s one of the most exciting ways to fish I’ve ever known. Like walking on water, with a fly rod at the ready!
Custom-designed fishing SUPs, made by BOTE Boards – both rigid-hull and inflatables – are now available in New Zealand for the first time and are bound to open a lot rarely-accessed lake shores to fly fishing. You can get fit, strengthen your core and get rid of those nagging back aches, and catch fish while you’re doing it!
